Josh Powell Camp is the perfect place to bring your children ages 5–10 and let them get back to really being kids, exploring, creating, and playing outdoors from 8am to 3pm every day.

How Much Does Summer Camp in Atlanta Cost?

Summer camp pricing across Atlanta varies enormously depending on format, hours and what's bundled in. Here is exactly what a week at Josh Powell Camp costs, with nothing hidden.

Five day session: $515 (about $103 per day)
Four day session: $415 (about $104 per day, for weeks containing a public holiday)

That price includes every activity, from swimming and archery to canoeing and the ropes course, plus bus transport from three Atlanta pickup points. There are no activity surcharges, no equipment fees and no transport add-ons.

What costs extra: extended care at $30 per day, which covers drop-off from 8:00am and collection until 5:00pm for car riders.

What you bring: campers bring their own lunch each day.

Full refunds are available on any cancellation made before May 15th, 2026, no questions asked.

Our camp sits on 30 acres in Acworth, but most of our campers live inside the perimeter. Free bus service is included with every session, so families across Atlanta get a real outdoor day camp without a 45 minute drive each way.

Buses depart at 8:25am sharp and return by 3:00pm.

Roswell Cultural Arts Center

Families in Marietta, Kennesaw, Woodstock and Acworth are usually closer to camp than to a bus stop, and most drive directly.

Car riders drop off between 8:45am and 9:00am and collect between 2:45pm and 3:00pm, with extended care from 8:00am to 5:00pm for $30 per day.

What to Expect

A Typical Day at Summer Camp

Every day is different, but here's what a typical summer camp day looks like at Josh Powell Camp.

8:10 am

Morning Arrival

Bus riders arrive at camp after pickup from three locations across Atlanta. Car riders arrive at 8:45am. Counselors greet every camper by name and lead morning group time - songs and games!

9:00 am

First Activity Block

Campers rotate through activities like archery, arts & crafts, fort building, or nature walks. Small groups ensure every child gets hands-on time with counselors.

10:30 am

Swimming Time

Supervised swim sessions with certified lifeguards. Kids cool off, play water games, and practice swimming skills in a safe, fun environment.

12:00 pm

Lunch & Rest

Campers eat the lunches they bring from home in the shade, with a quick 15 minute g-rated movie to relax in preparation for the rest of the active afternoon!

01:00 pm

Afternoon Adventures

Ropes course, canoeing on the lake, arts & crafts, or group games. Afternoon activities are action-packed and designed to tire kids out in the best way possible.

02:45 pm

End of Day & Pickup

Car riders are picked up at 2:45pm (extended care until 5pm available). Bus riders depart at 2:30pm and return to their designated pickup locations by 3:00pm.

  • Our goal is to make summer day camp affordable for every family. Because every kid deserves to experience summer camp.

  • Josh Powell Summer Camp welcomes all campers ages 5–10! Our unplugged, low-stress camp experience is perfect for first-time campers and returning campers alike. We group kids by age to ensure appropriate activities and peer interaction.

  • Our camp is located at 5242 Wade Green Rd NW, Acworth, GA 30102, just north of Atlanta in Cherokee County. We have a large camp sign at the entrance. Our nearest landmark is Kennesaw State University, just one exit south. However, most families use our bus service so you don't have to drive!

  • We offer bus service from three convenient locations: Trinity Presbyterian Church (Moores Mill Rd), Kairos Church (I-285 & Riverside), and Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Buses depart at 8:25am sharp and return by 3:00pm. Car riders can drop off at camp between 8:45am–9:00am and pick up between 2:45pm–3:00pm.

  • We offer full refunds for any cancellation made before May 15th, 2026 with no questions asked. After May 15th, we handle cancellations on a case-by-case basis and do our best to credit your payment toward a future session whenever possible.


  • Yes, absolutely! Tours can be arranged by texting the camp office at (678) 369-0780. We're closed for tours on weekends in May due to camp preparations being in full swing, but we're happy to schedule a visit any other time.

  • Absolutely! Many of our campers are first-timers. Our counselors are experts at helping nervous kids warm up quickly. By Day 2, most first-time campers are leading the group. If your child is anxious, reach out and tell us about them — we'll make sure they're paired with the right counselor group.

  • Yes! Many families book multiple sessions throughout the summer. Some kids attend all 11 sessions. Each session has a fresh mix of activities and your camper will meet new friends each time. There's currently no multi-session discount, but we may offer one in the future.


  • Please enter any allergy or medical concerns in the designated areas during registration. We work with every family to accommodate allergies, dietary restrictions, and medical needs. Our staff is first-aid trained and we take health seriously.


  • Day camps run during the day and send your child home each afternoon. Overnight camps keep campers on site for a week or more. Josh Powell Camp is a day camp running 8am to 3pm, so your child gets a full day of outdoor adventure and still sleeps in their own bed. For most children aged 5 to 10, and particularly for a first camp experience, that combination works better than a week away from home.

  • Specialty camps focus on one thing, whether that is coding, soccer or theatre. They are excellent if your child already has a passion they want to go deeper on. Traditional day camps rotate children through a wide mix of activities instead, which is usually how children work out what they actually love. We are a traditional outdoor day camp, so a camper might shoot archery in the morning, swim before lunch and be canoeing by mid afternoon.

  • There are hundreds of summer camps in Atlanta and the listings blur together quickly. Four questions cut through it fastest:

    How many counselors come back each year? High staff return rates are one of the clearest signals of a well run camp.

    What happens when it rains? Atlanta summers guarantee thunderstorms, and a camp without a real wet weather plan means a long day indoors.

    Can you book a single week first? Booking one session before committing to the summer lets you see how your child takes to it.

    How are children grouped, and how big are the groups? Ask about both age grouping and group size, because the two together determine how much attention your child actually gets.
