Founded by Josh Powell in 1972, Josh Powell Summer Day Camp has been family owned and operated from day one. For over 50 years, our camp has remained true to its original mission: getting kids outside, away from screens, and into real outdoor adventure on our 30-acre campus in Acworth, Georgia.

After Josh Powell passed away, Karen Powell continued operating the camp until 2014, when she decided to pass the torch to family friend (also, 10-time Josh Powell counselor and 30-year 1st grade teacher), Suzanne Quinlan, and her nephew, Jason Kay, a 3-time camper at Josh Powell and an experienced camp counselor of various camps in the Atlanta area.

Suzanne and Jason didn't just understand the camp's operations; they understood its heart and soul. They had lived the Josh Powell experience themselves, first as campers, then as counselors, and finally as stewards of a tradition that has shaped thousands of Atlanta childhoods.

We (Jason and Suzanne) are bringing our combined experience to JPC in order to continue serving the children of our community during such a formative time of their lives. Suzanne brings three decades of elementary education expertise, understanding exactly how kids ages 5-10 learn, grow, and thrive.

Jason brings his perspective as both a former camper and counselor, plus fresh ideas for keeping our programs exciting while honoring our outdoor traditions.

Our intent is to help mold your children as best we can in the time we have with them, not just during summer, but also during fall break, winter break, and spring break camps throughout the year. The lessons they learn at Josh Powell Camp will last them a lifetime: confidence, teamwork, resilience, problem-solving, and genuine friendship.

There are few experiences like the unplugged, get-dirty, outdoor adventure of Josh Powell Camp.
